Shortly after takeoff oil temperature pegged, turned around and landed. On short final the oil temperature dropped to the normal range. All other indications in the green and engine running smoothly. CHT normal and oil pressure 45 - 50. Oil level in the full range. It was a warm day 90F at 5,000 ft field elevation. Am I looking at a bad sensor or an engine problem? Running a 914ul 225 hours.

Does your installation comprise an oil thermostat?

Try it again. Could be a temp sender and could be a thermostat if you have one. May have been an electrical glitch? Try agai and see what happens.
