What is the best oil for the rotax 582
Is Castrol 2 stroke (Replace the TTS) a good one?

    Rinus,

Castrol is a good brand. I use Pennzoil two stroke mineral oil for air cooled engines. There are many good brands out there to choose from. There are a couple of things to consider. If your engine often sits for weeks at a time, I would stay away from the 100% synthetics. They don't offer the same corrosion protection that mineral based oils do. There are many companies that offer a blend of synthetic and mineral oil which would give you the best points of both oils. Be sure that you get one that is designed for air cooled engines. Although the 582 is water cooled, it operates at the high temperatures of an air cooled engine and the oils designed for outboards and other water cooled engines don't offer the same lubrication and can leave more deposits on the plugs, heads, and piston crowns. Ring sticking can be a problem also. TC or TC11 ratings are OK but stay away from anything rated TCW (two cycle water cooled).

    Hi!

    I use YACCO AVX500 2T, for three engines: Rotax 503DCDI, Rotax 462UL & Rotax 582UL Mod.90.
AVX500 (former MVX500 by YACCO) is to be found in the Rotax Operators Manual.

    Best regards,

I just bought a case of Aeroshell.

I was running Pennzoil like Bill. The Aeroshell is expensive so if there isn't an appreciable difference after the annual borescope I may go back.

Roger would it be ok using any brand of oil as long as it conforms to all the Rotax spec in the manual,

The main agent for Rotax in the UK only supply semi synthetic 2 stroke oil now...as far as I know its motor cycle based like as you recommend.
