I have a AC Clipper with a 582 UL/DHDI engine, gearbox "E" and an airplast prop.
Engine has appr. 350h.
Normally the engine rpm at take off is appr. 6200.
Now, this week the rmp goes up to 7500.
You add power, rpm goes up easy to 6000 and then adding more power it goes to 7000 and higher.
The last part, up to 7500 rpm seems to go very easy.

Q: How is this possible?
Is there anything in the gear box than can slip? It is the only explanation I can think of.
Why would the engine suddenly have so much power that it can make 1000 rpm more?

Did you fly it like this? No prop clutch? (I hope)
It may have something broken in the gearbox. Maybe tach or sensor error.

Does it actually sound like its revving much more...just by ear????

We noticed this during a take-off, we were airborn so we finished the circuit and landed.
We already planned to exchange the gasket of the gearbox because of a minor leak. We opened the gearbox and exchanged the gasket. Inside of the gearbox looks as new. No wear of the gear inside, no iron on the magnet, nothing. And there was enough oil in the gearbox, the gasket was only sweating, no more.
There is no clutch on the gearbox.

We noticed the high rpm on the rpm meter (VDO) but could also hear the rmp's go up.
At least, that is what I thought to hear, now when I'm back home...
We have a open view drawing of the gearbox from the manual and there is actually nothing that might slip except the conical connection between the crankshaft and the flywheel.
I cannot imagin that this is slipping as it is sucured with a Bold.

I think they can slip...sure I remember a guy that badly scored his crank through slippage,

I dont know about the 582 but on my 503...Rotax upped the torque but without looking through the manual I cant remember the fig...

There must have been a good reason why the revised the setting.

    Hi There

The e box has got a slipper system in it ,the big nut that holds big gear in place is how the slip torgue is adjusted. There is a fricton cone behind big gear which grips on prop out put shaft smooth metal on metal only . There is a torque setting in the manual for the big and its pretty high from menory. I have only seen one before slip in flight .

    good luck :)
