Tonight on the ride home from a trip I experienced a popping feel in the rudder pedals. I was travelling around 107kt @ 7500ft. Immediately the lane A light turned on and the Rotax Land Aircraft Immediately warning appeared. When I landed I did a run up and cleared the Lane A light but the plane still sounded and felt like it was running rough. I taxied to hangar and entirely shut down and restarted. Lane A light went back on as soon as I blipped the throttle and it still sounded and felt rough.

I spoke to my mechanic whom is on another airfield and he has no way of helping me out where my plane currently sits. The field I am at has no Rotax mechanics on site. I pulled the cowling and checked everything and with the exception of a loose spark plug boot on Cyl 3T everything seemed connected fine. 

Does anyone have any ideas? I am going to get a compression check done before I even try to turn it over again at this point however once again I am stuck at a field with no one here to perform a compression check for me as they have no experience on this engine. Is there a manual or something I can send them that goes in detail on how they can do this for me?

Also, this light tends to come on fairly often, it just never runs rough.

    Why do you want to check the compression ???

    The Lane light has nothing to do with compression.  

    If the Lane Light has been coming ON for some time, the engine has been trying to tell you it needs help.

    The engine will always operate at full power with most singe faults. That is the whole purpose of redundancy.

    What you now have is multiple faults in the same subsystem and no Redundancy to back it up. 

     

    What you need to do is connect it to a BUDS Dongle and download the files.

    There will be a long history telling you why the Lane light activated multiple times and a current fault telling you why it comes on when you advance the throttle. 

    So what you need to get is a Dongle and a Laptop hooked to the engine by whatever means you have.

    Either take the plane to the computer or bring the computer to the plane.

    Michael, The engine manuals are available on this site under SUPPORT/BULLETINS if you would like to read up on the ECU (engine control) system and the BUDS system.

    I found a broken / corroded wire in the 3T CYCL spark plug boot! Cleaned it up, cut the corroded part of and it runs fine now! Now sputtering, sounds perfect!

    I think I will go ahead at this point and replace all of my spark plug wires/boots anyways just to be sure incase any others are corroded.

    No, I do not.  But I plan on getting one soon.

    You might try Zone Aviation At Lorain County (LPR).  They rent CTLSs.

    If they don't do their own maintenance, the FBO on the field (MRK Aviation) probably does.

    Someone at LPR has one.
