auxiliary pump installation was created by LucasTrike
Hi, I have to install an auxiliary electric pump (FACET) in my 582, but I have a question, do I install it before the original motor pump or in parallel with it? Thank you

In Series, Before the Mechanical Pump.

The AUX Pump should be as close to the main fuel tank as reasonably possible and located in a relatively cool area.
Typically, on the lower firewall.
Its primary purpose is to pressurize the fuel line before the main pump to prevent or clear any vapor lock.
It is recommended to operate the AUX pump whenever you are at or below pattern altitude.

The Mechanical pump is a diaphragm and two one way valves.
The AUX pump is able to pump through the main pump.
There is no need to install an additional bypass valve around the main pump.

If the AUX pump's pressure is equal to, or slightly higher than the Main Pump's pressure, the Main Pump is held open and does nothing.
If the AUX pump's pressure is slightly lower, the main pump only pumps enough to make up the difference.

If you plumb them in Parallel, you will be doubling the fuel flow rate and risk overwhelming the fuel system.

I followed the same route as Bill says, mounted the pump in series, before the mechanical pump. Works flawlessly, in use for more than a year and still going strong.
