High EGT on one cyl.

What would be some thoughts on the following?

503 DCDI 50 HP.

Normal CHT's (250-300*F------ One EGT reading 1200*F (high end) the other 950*F (normal)

I'm thinking a bad connection or probe.

    Hi Rich...did the EGTs ever read the same....if so what did they both read.

    Nick,

    I sent a reply last evening, seems it didn't go through.

    EGT usually read 900-1000*F. Then, one day, one went to 1200*F and that's where it's staying at cruise.

    Rich,

    I would check all the connectors first. Because the voltage is so low, even a slight bit of corrosion in a connector can affect the reading. Sometimes just unplugging and replugging the connectors can cure the problem.

    You can determine whether it is the probe or the engine by switching the probe positions. If the high reading stays with the probe, the probe or wiring is bad. If the high reading reverses on the gauge, the engine is at fault.

    If it is the engine, trash in the jets or float valve can cause the carb to run lean, raising the EGT.

    Unless you've done some work on the carbs or fuel lines recently, my guess would be the probe or connectors.

    Bill would a bad connection not cause the gauge to read low...seems like Rich has one reading much higher than normal.
