Hey guys, i have a 582 blue head with dual bing carbs. After moving throttle to full open the engine runs great for about 15 seconds,(just enough to get in the air) and then loses RPMs, like its running out of fuel. I,ve checked all the jets and adjusted the needles to the #3 slot like the factory recommends. Checked the floats and needle valves and can't find anything wrong. Also changed fuel filter and pulled one of the lines off the fuel pump(which is a pulse pump) and it seems to be pumping plenty of fuel. I'm gettin really frustrated! Anyone have any tips? Its mounted on a buckeye powered parachute. THANKS!

I have a 582 and there are a few things that are worth checking.
Other than silly things like needles wrongly assembled or fuel pickup blocking and just about anything else
fuel quality is the first..new fuel?
oil mixture ok ? premix to test
floats getting stuck from gunk in fuel from long storage.. soak with methylated spirit to dissolve
Choke plunger not sealing ..remove and inspect.
is it both carbs or just one ? remove both floats immediately after failure and see fuel?

any way you need to do a lot more tests to get good help here like plug color? temps ? history of unit /fault

BUT BE WARNED if one cylinder is starving it will burn a hole in your piston please make sure that your fix is not a half fix.

check plug colors and be sure they match. egt would be useful in any case

please post your solution here when it is found for others in your boat

Thanks for the reply. I done all of the things you mentioned as well as replaced all fuel lines, fuel pulse pump, primer pump, pulse line and disassembled both carbs twice and cleaned and inspected. No luck. I pulled both plugs and found them to be light brown like they are running lean. If I had a crank seal leaking could that cause this problem?

mate of mine has a 582...had similar probs to you...he had checked the carb float needle valves...in the end he got a professional the look at the carbs...he found one of the needle valves sticking slightly.

    New valve prob sorted.

you will have to work out which cylinder

Light brown is ok ,dark brown is better but as they are not black it is not over fueling.

What are the float levels immediately after failure?

it they are low or almost empty they are running out of fuel which you already know

I had float sticking but that was one cylinder ..so its down to proving
    more info

    does it stop ?
how long until i runs fine again?
you will find it but it can be hard ..just prove one thing at a time ..first thing which cylinder?

then swap things ,,lots of work but they do allow lots of careful tear downs .

You have soaked the system with metho or alcohol?..then drained and dried after an overnight soak

Im pretty sure its both cylinders because it doesnt miss. It it runs smooth other than the rpms dropping. Also it never will start running good again until you shut it down or let it run at low idle for a while. Then it will run again for 15 seconds or so. If you just let it idle or run it at lower rpms it seems to run fine. It really acts like it runs just long enough for the bowls to run out of fuel but i've pulled them right after it quit and both are still full.
