Re: New carb socket fits loose

Hi Kelsie,
It certainly looks pushed in all the way. Is it easy to turn left & right? Is it possible to push out of the socket with two fingers? Does it feel firmly mounted if you try and pull it out?

Hi Roger,
I do not feel that there is any danger of the carburetor falling out- I believe it is seated in the groove properly, and the clamp tightness is sufficient to keep it from coming out of the groove. However, it only takes one finger worth of pressure to rotate it clockwise or counterclockwise in the socket. The other carb (1/3) is secure enough that an entire hand worth of pressure doesn't rotate it.

Long Shot: Could the clamp have a diffrent ID, when tight??
Easy test - reuse the old clamp & see if it does a better job.

The clamp itself does not have its own part number as far as I can tell.
Both the 1/3 socket that is snug and the loose 2/4 socket are the same part number 267 789, as linked above.
Your suggestion to try swapping the clamps makes sense, and I have tried that. Unfortunately it did not make any difference. I also temporarily stuck the 1/3 carburetor in the 2/4 socket just to see how it would fit, and it was loose just like the 2/4 carb in the 2/4 socket is, but it is snug in its own 1/3 socket. I cannot test fit the 2/4 carb in the 1/3 socket because there isn't sufficient clearance.
As far as I can tell, the sockets just aren't the same snugness.
Both sockets are attached to their respective intake manifolds torqued to 133 in/lbs with Loctite 243 per 913 MMH 73-10-00 Sept 2022 P. 24.

I’m pulling my carbs to send to Lockwood for the five year service tomorrow, I have two new Rotax replacement sockets- when my carbs come back (likely next week) and I reinstall them with the new sockets I will report back here with what I find.
