Hi RW, I can't find anything in AC 43.13-1B or AC 43.13-2A about notching drain lines...  Do you have a reference section?

    Thanks,

    Mike

The "Drip Trays" main benefit is as a heat shield, from the rear exhaust pipes, to the underside of the carburetors. Their potential to catch/retain and direct into a drain small amounts of fuel exiting the float bowl, is almost nil. Your tray drain lines, are tantamount to a decoration.😈

When I received my new Rotax Airbox, it came with two "left" drip trays.  I ended up filing a warranty claim and Advanced Powerplant Solutions sent me a new drip tray kit.  I found it interesting that the drain holes and nipples are much smaller on the new trays than those on the original trays I received.  The drain holes are very small--I'm guessing 0.032".  I couldn't get the calipers in to measure exactly.  It looks like even a small amount of debris would plug the holes.

I read somewhere that any fuel that drips into a tray would probably vaporize before it had a chance to flow down to the drain hole in the tray (unless the engine was cold, or a lot of fuel exited the carbs.)

Sean, I agree with your assessment.  I think the trays will provide a good heat shield.

I'm following the Rotax Installation Manual... I'm almost done!
