I have a 912UL on my Avid. I had a problem with it fouling the plugs. I lowered the gas level in the carbs and this seems to have fixed the problem. Now I have a hard time starting the engine. I keep the throttle full closed and choke all the way in service and it takes forever for the engine to fire up. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Eric,

I have a number of questions  to pinpoint this. This shouldn't be a hard fix, but a couple of things need to be ruled in or

If you’re not familiar with Rotax motors I’d suggest getting advice from someone who knows them because you’re going to have to learn the proper starting procedures. They can save you lots of frustration.

I weighed the floats from each carb. One set was 6.3 grams and the other set was 6.4 grams. The float arms in one carb was 14mm from the base of the carb and the other was 13mm from the base. Both were reset to 11mm. The engine now starts in one to two blades with the choke pulled. Sync’s the carbs again. For now everything looks good but it still runs rougher than I like.

If it's still running a little rough and the carbs are now synced and carbs are all okay then it may be electrical. What are your mag drop numbers? If it isn't electrical then possibly prop balance, blades not exactly the same pitch or even gearbox. Can also be old hard rubber engine mounts. These questions need answers to help narrow the roughness down.
