Is there a Rotax approved silicone option for the oil hoses?  I don't see a listing for a silicone oil hose on the IPC.  These hoses running below the engine are subject to a lot of heat and going to a high heat resistant hose would seem prudent;

    Hi Patrick,

    Rotax supplied oil hoses are perfectly adequate for the job.

    If you feel that there is the potential for heat damage, from the exhaust, you can either insulate the oil hose, the exhaust, or both.

    You can use aviation grade, silicon & fiberglass, insulating sleeves on the oil hose eg

    Silicone Fiberglass Hose Sleeve ...or make your own, as I do, using exhaust wrap, high temperature silicon gasket goo & ductile aluminium sheet.

    If your aircraft is a homebuilt/experimental, you may have the freedom to avoid the ROTax on oil, coolant &  fuel hose, - check out Gates products. Gates usually have comprehensive specifications for their products. Always go for a product that meets or exceeds Rotax specifications.😈

    In the US all oil and fuel hoses are supposed to be in fire sleeve. This not only protects them from and engine fire and making the fire even worse, but helps keep the heat off as well and also helps from abrasion if they are up against something.

    Patrick

    I don't think silicone hose is compatible with oil and fuel.

    Silicone is compatible with coolant and air.

    That's my understanding

    Hi Roger,

    "In the US all oil and fuel hoses are supposed to be in fire sleeve. "

    Does your statement include home built/experimental aircraft ?
