A mag dropping 3000 rpm is unacceptable. I would say a failure of both units or their wiring.

OK...  Removed suspect module and checked underneath module stack and all looked well.  Installed old 1,000 hour module I removed in December.  Run-up was without issue except for slight tiredness of old module.  Somebody tell me if I am wrong in concluding the removed (new SN 25.2601) unit is defective.

With no bench-test available to me for the module, I plan on contacting the USA supplier, with whom I have been dealing with for more than 30 years).  I am aware that Rotax protects themselves from legal liability via numerous means.  I wonder, however, if anyone has returned a defective, solid-state (3 flight hours) part and received a satisfactory recompense.  I do not wish to impugn the USA supplier, but what procedure would you recommend?  I had to wait 6 weeks for the unit in question.  I am looking for a solution, but if I am SOL, just say so.  TIA

Well, I composed a comprehensive reply which was somehow lost in transmission...

Now trying again.  Removed suspect module and checked underneath module stack, found no anomalies.  Installed old (1,000 hour unit removed in November).  Normal run-up; no issues.  Am I correct in concluding new unit is defective?  Especially given I checked all pertinent electrical connections previously.  Lacking a bench test, I plan to contact USA supplier in hopes of recompense.

I know Rotax insulates itself from USA liability issues, but what would be the best procedure to follow?  I have dealt with my USA supplier for 30 years and would like to get this unit (SN 25.2601) exchanged.  Thoughts please, and if I am SOL, just say so. TIA  Jim

    Hi Jim

The serial number shows this was new in 2025.  It is is indeed faulty then it will have a warranty.  You must go online at www.flyrotax.com and fill in a customer service information report, CSIR.  You will need to show the serial number of your installation as well and answer as many of the questions as possible to create a file they can work with.

Several of the US based independent Service Centres, iSC, do have bench test equipment that can verify what fault is in the module.  I would try APS, in Wisconsin, or Lockwood Supply, in Florida.  You will have to supply the invoice of the part and where it was obtained.  For example if the part was purchased new from Lockwood you would have any claim processed by them as they received the payment for the replacement part.

This might be an issue if as you say it was used...that presents some problems as the warranty is for new parts.

    Cheers

    Hi Jim,

    Problem solved?

I had the same experience after installing new spark plugs. Simply i forgot 1 Spark plug cap to install. Engine start no problem, Mag check at one line horrible vibrations and loss of rpm. Engine runs on 3 cylinder.

Maybe there is an issue with the ignition but check first the simplest. Do you have on all 8 Spark plugs a spark?

    Greetings
