Since the 914 engine fails without an electric fuel pump operating, I'd like some real time monitoring of the pump/s.

Wondering what the best way to do this is?

Could I just install a fuel pressure gage on the inlet side of the regulator?

I know that fuel pressure changes with throttle, but if there is a minimum number that a functional pump would produce, I can set my Dynon warning below that.

I considered warning lights, but if the pump failed and still had an uninterrupted circuit, it wouldn't help.

Just wondering. What are the odds that both fuel pumps fail at the same time? The 912IS,915 and 916 have a similar arrangement.

My biggest concern would be losing complete electrical power. I do monitor the electrical power at the pumps with a indicator light.

    I too have a 914.

Aside from takeoff and landing you fly with one pump. If it fails, you get an engine failure, I'd like to know of that condition as soon as possible.

I have also been able to taxi/do the runup with no pumps (high wing) so I would like another indicator.

    Hi Shaun,

"I have also been able to taxi/do the runup with no pumps (high wing).."

    This is in a 914 ? 912IS ? 915? 916 ?

    😈

Sean, this is a 914, which only has electric pumps…much like the 912iS but lower pressure.

    Shaun,

I like the idea of a second pressure sender on the high pressure side of the regulator. Looking at the graph in the installation manual (see below) you can predict the approximate pressure you would see. For instance, if the total flow (engine usage plus return flow) was 40 L/hour, then your pressure should be about 1600 hpa or 23 PSI.  I don’t think it would change that much with engine load. If you install it, report the results please.

I have a much simpler 912ULS that can potentially fly (likly reduced power) with only gravity fed fuel.

I was under the impression that 914s, & injected variants, required constant pump pressure, to run - hence my question😈
