The Rotax manuals call the charging system a "generator" but I did not notice any permanent magnets in the system and the regulator has a field circuit labeled C which would make it an alternator (i.e. won't start without some juice in the battery). Which system do we have in the 912ULS?

If it is an alternator as I suspect, why is the field circuit not used for shutting down the alternator during over voltage or why is an over voltage protection system not called for in the Rotax wiring diagrams.

Is the new regulator finally up to snuff or does it still cause some problems?
