    Hi Kevin,

    Just balance the carbs for your weather right now. It won't be an issue. All a sync does is make sure the two carbs are doing the same thing at the same time. A sync should be done at each annual and or 100 hr. inspection. You will usually always find them off. maybe just a little, but still in need of a sync.

    In the maintainence manual it says turning the idle mixture screw counter-clockwise (out) richens the mixture and turning it clock-wise (in) leans the mixture. I was told by a Lockwood tech that this is wrong. Turning clock-wise richens and counter-clockwise leans, because this is an air adjustment, not fuel. Is the lockwook tech correct or is the manual correct???

    Bruce,

    I'm pretty sure that turning the idle mix screw out (counter clockwise) leans the mix. Roger can give you a more definitive answer on this. I have found out that in most cases, when you fine tune the idle air screw with the engine running at idle, you will almost always end up very close if not exactly where you started; 1.5 turns out.

    Bill I believe you are right. After looking at a cut-a-way of the carb, it looks as though the idle mixture screws does let more air in as you turn it out counter-clockwise which would lean. I find there are mistakes in the Rotax Manuals. I wish they would correct some of these as a lot of people rely on the manuals for the correct information... Thanks for your reply
