    Bill,
Looking at the engine diagrams and the comparison of the starter sizes it does seem the new one is less in diameter and equal in length without the lugs?
Interesting. The risk I have is to buy one and find out it doesn't fit!
I know the result starting problems can lead to more costly fixes with sprag clutch and starter fly wheel.?

    Any th outs?

    Tim,

The starter length with the lugs sawed off is 14cm. That is a conservative measurement. You might shave off a couple more mm. You don't want the starter too close to the engine support frame. The isolation mounts allow the engine to move, Especially at startup and shutdown. You could probably get a little closer than 15mm but not much.

    Bill.

    Bill,
Thanks for the reply. Understand about the space needed as a cushion from the frame. I believe it will fit with the lugs cut off.
Many thanks. Looking at the parts catalog from the Rotax manual where they have both starters displayed, they do look about the same size. The new one looks slimmer then the old starter but slightly longer with the lugs. 9.3 in Parts Catalog.
    Cheers,
    Tim

    Bill,
Had the starter exposed today and did some measurements and I am afraid it doesn't fit even with the lugs sawn off.
Engine frame is it the way for the Clasic Europa, however the Rotax man has said the old starter will suffice.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Tim

If you are stuck with the old starter, have you thought of updating the ignition modules to the new soft start type and the retarded flywheel.

    Cheers Mark
