    Roger,
I am gobsmacked that your buying from the UK because its cheaper, just hurt my arm falling off the setee.
Do you think it would be a good idea to start some threads of common mistakes that people like me have done over the years.
I am really glad that people with your experience are happy to help us out on the forums.
There is a very good forum called Microlightforum.co.uk if you care to take a look.

I have had JBM sockets on my 912S since new. Reason is that the sockets on my 582 had to be replaced almost every year for three years due to cracking. Four years ago I replaced them with JBM sockets which look as good now as they did the day I installed them. I pull them off for inspection at each annual and can find no indication of deterioration of any kind. When I inspect the rotax sockets, They seem to be cracked wherever they are exposed to sunlight. Never cracked on the inside and never under the clamps. Don't know if the JBM sockets have any sort of UV inhibitors in the rubber composition but they haven't cracked at all.

Last month, with 420hrs and 4 years 11 months since first engine start, and the 8mm spacer, my starboard carb mounting socket both cracked around the base and delaminated from the steel part on the opposite side. I found this on a routine preflight when I noticed the carb felt quite loose.

I don't know how I could have abused this part, but they were both replaced ASAP. $103 each. Ouch.

    Hi Alan,

Sometimes we do nothing wrong and it is the luck of the draw. Somethings just go bad. This is one reason Rotax wants the carb sockets replaced during the 5 year rubber replacement program. Some people complain that their hoses are okay, but we can't see inside the hoses and they can and do flake or degrade on the inside where we can't see. I had to do my 5 year rubber replacement last month. I had 2 hoses I'm glad I changed after seeing them off the plane and inside the hose. Unfortunately flying is not a cheap sport and no one should think otherwise. I dislike the cost as much as the next person, but I like to fly and I won't endanger my wife or myself and leave my wife alone to fend for herself.

    Roger,
I fully understand your point, but why is it that Rotax parts are so so much more expensive.
Rotax as far as I know dont make the hoses or carb rubbers themselves, yes they may test them but the price of the engine itself is bad enough.
The diaphragm for instance, rotax agents sell them for nearly five times more than a motorcycle shop, yet there is only one part number.
Sorry mate, just having a bit of a rant, you dont make the prices I am sure, but I am one of thousands who feel like this.
