    Hi Jay,
Just my personal preference for analog gauges.

Once you disconnected your electronic device and hooked up the carbs again all that fine tuning was gone. The balance tube works well, but isn't a fine science like the electronic device plus you then have other influence on each carb from the other.
I don't have any issues with the electronic devices, but you can't diagnose with them. They more or less only tell you when the carbs are equal.
The analog gauges can tell you which carb needs adjusting and by about how much, they can tell you if you can balance at all because the individual cables may need adjustment at the throttle arm, they can tell you if either idle jet is clogged or the main jet, ect... and the electronic device is much slower.

    Hi Roger,
You have helped me a lot on this forum. I AM having issues with the carb sync this time and it is likely that Im just out of practice and by myself. No w I have another problem (see "oops fried regulator?") I will do the carb sync with the device I currently own but as long as im going shopping for parts and tools, what should I buy in the line of gauges? I want the most accurate and versatile tool I can find as I am now alone in the world of rotax maintenance, there isn't anyone out here. I may as well live at the North Pole. I still think the Rotax motor is a good choice for the Kitfox, but I had to go to the mechanics school in Canada to learn how it really works and how to take care of it. That said, I broke it. Now I'll fix it.

    ;)
    Thanks !

We just had ten synced by a very riotax experienced A&P... It's running great and probably won't need sync again for a while. But will take you up on that offer when next needed.

Hi, curious what equipment he used for the sync, electronic or gauges ?

Sorry about ver belated reply .

It was Brian carpenter and Jasen Golden at Rainbow aviation . They use an electronic sync.

    Hi Jay,

The sync devices probably fit into the personal preference category. That said the gauges can do so much more towards diagnostics and speed than the electronics devices. So long as both gauges are equal and you pay attention to the needle detail on the gauge then I personally see no advantage to the electronic devices. If you buy a set of gauges buy some that are liquid filled and put a needle valve inline so you can turn it down and dampen the pulsation. A sync setup for the carbs does not need to be expensive to be very functional and more than accurate for our needs.

Hey Roger, I built the liquid filled carb sync system and tried it out tonight. It works like a charm and was much easier to diagnose the carb adjustments requirements. I LOVED IT! When I hooked up the balance tube, the smoothness at Idle and at 3500 was remarkable. Then I ran it hard at full power for about a minute and watched the temps and fuel flow. I'm pretty happy. tomorrow will likely be test flight day. :woohoo:
