Personally I prefer filters that you can see whats going on inside. Had an impending failure of a filter once that was almost fully blocked by a deteriorating cork washer in my fuel tank. Only caught it when I saw it during routine maintenance.

I like the metal filters, see through or not. I prefer the ones that can be disassembled, cleaned and re-used. I like to be able to see inside for an inspection and get an idea on what's passing or not passing through the system. These filters can then be checked every 100 hrs at the inspection. If you have a filter that gets totally clogged in 100 hrs. you have a serious problem. I inspect about 30 fuel filters a year on 912's. I do find some very minor debris, but nothing of concern that would cause anyone a problem. If you have a clear one then it's the same thing.
