I just received my airworthy certificate last week, I have about 14 hours on the engine. Before first flight i checked my right and left carb to see if the Floats where in spec according to SB-912-65UL. They were just in spec by one ml on each side. At 4000 rpm in the traffic pattern i experienced roughness in the engine. I advanced the throttle three times and was able to clear the roughness away. Does this sound like i need the new floats. My serial number falls with in the service bulletin.

    Hi Nate,

It could be a heavy float, but fairly low hours. The limit is 7 grams, not sure what ML is?
Have the carbs been synced? Is fuel puking out the vent tube on the carb? Double check for smooth throttle movement too.

Hi Roger, It is fairly low hours. But when i looked up the service bulletin my serial number was included. My plane has been ready to fly for the last 7 months. I have been taxing it on the ground about once a week week up until I was issued my airworthiness certificate. I purchased a duel needle manifold pressure gauge to sync the carbs. It is very smooth through out the entire rpm range. Also when the roughness occurred i was able to clear it by advancing and retracting the throttle three times. And then the motor acted smooth like it did before. When i fallowed the procedure in SB-912-65ul the ML refers to Milliliters of gasoline that I injected into the side of the carb with a syringe. it is hard to get exact measurements with this method the SB states that anything below 23 ML is not acceptable. I did this to both carbs and the amount of fuel i measured was about 24 ML on each side. It is hard to do this and not spill Gas but the measurement i had was very close to the lower limit that is stated in the service bulletin. And if you factor in plus or minus 10%. My carbs floats could be below the limit... I will weigh them next. I ordered the new floats from California power system but they said the new style floats would not be available until June 9. I have had in my possession my motor since Jan of 2014. So if you take into account shipping that would make my motor a 2013.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Nate,

Sorry you're having to go through this with a new plane and one I'm sure you want to be in the air with.
I don't care for the milliliter method. It's just easier and better for me to just weigh them. Sounds like you have had fuel in the bowls for a while. It sure does sound like a heavy float(s). Maybe someone here has a set of floats to sell? May or may not be the newest ones, but still may be new and could get you back in the air.

    Hi Nate,

A day off, what's that?

It really doesn't matter when you call. I take calls all days and all hours. I really don't have any schedule.
