  • Re: Help/Info Needed on Oil Pressure & Temp 912 ULS

I have a brand new 912 ULS with only 6 hours running and only three in flight. I cannot get the oil temp much above 140F and when cutting back to 3500 rpm and descending the oil temp goes as low as 112F. I am in Canada and the ambient temps in October are 28 to 40F. How much of the oil cooler should I block off? I tried using muffler tape for 1/3 of the cooler but it didn't make too much difference. Has anybody had experience using the Rotax Oil Thermostat? Does it work as advertized? I plan on using skiis this winter at 20F but don't want to damage my brand new engine. Chris.

Hi, i use a Mocal high temp oil thermostat . It helps but when it gets to -15c i tape all of the oil cooler over with aluminum tape.
I also use a thermobob thermostat on the coolant .

Many just put a piece of 2" aluminum tape over the top 2" of the radiator. If that isn't enough then go inch by inch down with more tape until you achieve your desired temp and you have blocked off enough radiator surface area. Don't use Gorilla or Duct tape. The glue on it will leave a mess to clean off. Fold the edges of the aluminum tape around the outside edges of the radiator. It works for a lot of people. I don't get real cold where I live, but I do put a strip across my radiator for the winter.
