I have a 2002 912ULS, I have to drive 180 miles round-trip in a direction I do not normally go to get ethanol-free fuel with an octane rating of 93. I am always looking at the http://pure-gas.org/ website for sources of ethanol free fuel. Today I found a new station within 20 miles of my house that has 90 octane ethanol-free fuel.

ROTAX requires 91 octane fuel in the 912ULS but 90 seems so close, I think I know the answer but would you use or try 90 Octane. I know I can use fuel with ethanol in it but prefer not to.

Thanks

    Hi Ron,

If your fuel tanks are okay with the ethanol then the engine is just fine with it and I would use 91 oct with ethanol before a straight 90 Oct.

I have switched over to the new SWIFT fuel (100 low lead replacement by 2018) that is in the final testing stage along with SHELL, the engine runs very well on this fuel even to the point were my vibration in the 3000 to 4500 rpm range is pretty much gone it also idles much smoother. Someone at Sun & Fun said they will ship it to you in 55 gallon drums no charge on the shipping since the gov wants this fuel tested in real world enviornment. It weighs 1 pound more per gallon is supposed to be 15% more efficient which translate to better range.

    Roger and Garrett,

Thanks, really want to keep using ethanol-free fuel. Such a pain in the ass finding 91 Octane.

I had a soft lifter after the 5 year rubber/oil line change. I am sure the root cause was the 100LL leaving lead in the lifters. I do not want lead or alcohol in my fuel. Can't wait for the EPA mandate for the new fuel.
