Hi,

I have a Searey with a 914UL SN-4417607 installed. I have about 600 hours on the engine and airframe, at 435 hours the engine suffered an overboost with a previous owner leading to a new crankshaft, main bearings, TCU etc.. The engine runs great, I've put about 100 hours on it in the last 9 months with no problems. My question is regarding the TBO (which I think is 1000 for my engine) and the cost effectiveness of complying with SB-914-027UL to get to 1200 TBO. Also, I'd be interested in any advice as to actually overhauling a 914 or do most just buy a factory re manufactured engine? I have some time left but I need to start planning.

Thanks,

John S.

    Hi John,

Some of this answer depends where in the world you live. In the US you are allowed by the FAA to go on condition. In other countries it may be different.
The key here is to do good annuals and maint. and keep good records. Use the Rotax maint. checklist, do the things during the engine's life you're supposed to do. Don't use 3 line annual logbook labels.
