I installed two LED landing lights (6 LED's each). Ground testing using battery power was normal. No effect on radio reception or operation.
However, once the engine is operated (with the alternator engaged) the radio immediately goes into squelch and indicates RX. Only a fairly strong transmission can overpower the squelch.
I grounded the aluminum cases (on the LED landing lights) and used ferrite coils on the power/ground wires. The result was no change.
Again the radio functions fine on battery power and even when the engine is first started, so long as the alternator has not come online. Once the alternator comes online the squelch starts.
You can turn up the radio squelch to 80 percent (which obviously decreases the sensitivity) and the squelch will go away- but that of course decreases the sensitivity and the reception range of the radio.
I have spoken to Dynon but they don't have any suggestions.
I assume this has something to do with the charging circuit and the LED's not being compatible.
Anyone else had this experience? Any suggestion on a fix?
The previous landing lights (quartz) operated fine and no radio noise.
I have a Rotax 912 iS Sport and Dynon Skyview screens with Dynon Com.
No other radio problems or issues.
