I installed the 912UL in my Kitfox IV. I have been pitching the prop for this plane for best cruise and I have been playing with the pitch for a couple of days now. I have a 1600 foot strip at 2060 MSL and it was 90 degrees today with half tanks. a climb pitch is getting me out of the field very quickly and I am topping out in cruise at 90 mph at 5500 RPM.
Cruise pitch is 120 indicated at 5460. (VNE is 120) WOW! its noticeably faster. My static high end was 5300 but like I said, it was 90 degrees.

I want the engine to go full TBO, I don't have to wind it up tight all the time and cruising at anything over 100 mph is good to me. My last engine seemed pretty happy around 5200 indicated and I didn't feel that I was lugging it. But, ... thats the question, can this motor really perform long term at 5500 rpm if all the temps and pressures are in the green? or should I leave it a little room for error? Rob, feel free to chime in here, I know you have seen these forever.

    Hi Jay,
Pitch it to get 5600-5650 and that will be the best BALANCED WOT rpm for your ground adjustable prop. Then if you like to cruise at 5200 rpm that's a good place. It should easily make TBO. Anything below 5500 rpm WOT is starting on the over pitched side.
