22 microF Capacitor

Hi, new to the forum so this may already have been answered or be a stupid question so I apologize in advance if that is the case.

I'm planning on fitting an external alternator and according to the 912 installation manual there is a 22microF capacitor on the output of the alternator in addition to the same capacitor on the output of the generator. If I connect both the generator and the alternator the two capacitors are effectively connected in parallel. Can these two capacitors be replaced by a single 44micoF capacitor?

Yes you can but not necessary, I have a similar setup and the existing 22uF cap works just fine.

Thanks, I've just noticed this has now changed to a 1uF capacitor in the installation manual. I think I was looking at an old installation manual. I take it you only use the 1 capacitor for both generator and alternator?

No, I have been using the original 22uf for 5 years now. I figure if its not broke don't fix it.

Just to clarify, I have only one 22uF Cap for both the Rotax generator and the B&C alternator and their outputs with the capacitor wired together at the amp meter shunt.

I am not flying yet (almost) so this is "for what it is worth." I have the 914 with the built in dynamo and the external alternator. I am running them independent of each other and was told by a Rotax authority that I don't need a capacitor on the external alternator.
