912 ULS Carburetor Bowl

Two days ago on take off I experienced an uncommanded engine power reduction. Long story short, I removed the carburetor bowls to inspect for possible contamination. It appears that the coating/plating inside the bowl is breaking down, flaking off. I showed the bowls to an A&P on the field and he was very concerned and thought it was a manufacturing defect. Attached are some pictures. Any feedback is welcome.

I would tend to agree with your A&P re the first two photos. But what are we looking at in the third one?

The A&P I spoke to thought it was corrosion as a result of the breakdown of material. It's a very fine powder. It has the consistenty of flower. I removed the bowl with fuel in them and poured the gas through a shop towel. This stuff was floating in the gas.
