    Hi all

At the factory the seal is installed with Lithium grease on the sealing lips.  The outer seal surface has a light coating of Loctite 5910 (you can substitute Loctite 598 if you have it) Follow the instructions from the heavy manual as suggested.  The latest heavy manual is almost ready to be released and will show the use of the Loctite.

The use of the factory push tool is recommended as it not only pushes the seal in but makes sure it is square to the bore of the hole.

    Cheers

    Hey Bill

We installed the new seal and a new larger ID oil return line . The fitting going into the oil tank was about 10mm ID.

Question for you. Why do you think rotax does not have a retaining ring holding in that main  seal?

The obvious answer is that it does not need one.
The backside of that seal is the <5psi of the crankcase pressure; Not the 70 psi of the Oil pressure.
With a cross-section area of maybe 1 square inch, less than 5 pounds of force is trying to eject it.
You could hold it in with a finger.
Now that you are experienced in what it takes to get it out,  would a retaining ring be worth the effort?

Ok seal is replaced and a new larger oil return line and fittings installed.

We made a fitting for the locking bolt hole and checked the Crank pressure which is about 6.5 PSI on the ground full throttle. 6.5 .is on the high end  does that sound OK .

    Bill

How bad is it that we are getting 6.5 at full throttle? I have rebuilt the entire oil return line except the tank. What else is there?
