I read the wiring diagram again and it dawned on me that the MS25041 "press to Test" warning lights I was going to use for the Lane A & B warning lights may not work according to plan. The MMS25041 light is supposed to be across 12 volts and ground, and when you test it you ground it. then would that be EMS ground or airframe ground?

However the wiring harness diagram shows the warning light between two wires from the ECU and I get the feeling neither of them are grounds and that I could fry the electronics if I fed in 12V to test the lamp.

Is this a reasonable assumption and thus not a good idea? I also wanted a press to test lamp for the aux fuel pump but wouldn't that need to be grounded to the EMS ground? This one is important to me to have because the fuel pressure regulator doesn't like two pumps working at once and failure to switch off the auxilliary after takeoff is not a good idea.

You are correct; do not connect ground the warning lamps to the EMS or airframe ground. You do not need press to test and you can test the Lane lamp at any time by switching off that lane ar by watching the start-up test cycle.

The aux fuel pump should be run continuously (except start-up and run-up tests). This will be stated in the next revision of the operators manual.

Thank you Rob. I cannot stress enough the need for me and perhaps other owners to read the manuals over and over! It's all there I think I just cannot get my head around the amount of thinking that has gone into this wonderful engine.

For example, with Two fuel pumps, you would have turned one off - like conventional operation of some other engines where the second pump is electric and only operational on takeoff and landing.

What tripped me up was the wording of the caution in the manual that warns against parallel fuel pumps. I didn't realize that the Rotax pumps are actually in series so that they can be run together. Would I be right in thinking that the ECU can delect a failed pump?

That statement has tripped a few people up.
The ECU can shut off the fuel pumps (it must do so when the engine stops, as part of the certification requirements)
But I do not think it can detect if they are running. I will ask the Dr.

Answer from above: The ECU does not monitor the fuel pumps.
