When I preflight my Flight Design CTLSi with the 912is ( 2018 with 130 hours total time)

I check to see the overflow bottle of coolant is at the proper level...  I never read of a requirement to to check the coolant at the engine. After about 8 hours of run time ( after seeing the engine level was topped) the engine coolant would overheat after 6 minutes of ground time( ramp temp 80 deg .... sea level) not pointed into the wind ( in my TIEDOWN)

turns out there was a slow leak in on of the hoses but curiously the overflow tank always showed full.

Just curious if rotax states to check coolant level at the engine rather than the overflow bottle....

which I’ll have to do from now on..

Any Thoughts????

The engine should always be 100% full.
When working properly, the Coolant Reservoir Bottle should refill the engine 100% after every flight.
A slow leak in the engine should have drained the bottle.
You have 2 leaks, and one of them is in the hose from the base from the Radiator Cap to the Bottle.
This hose must be Vacuum Tight at the Radiator Cap and extend to the very BOTTOM of the bottle for the system to work properly.

Be sure you understand how this system works or you will be chasing your tail.
It is NOT a simple bottle to catch overflows and prevent dripping.
The bottle fills and drains every time you run the engine.

Here is an example (begin around minute 4:30) of how NOT to hook up the overflow bottle!
