hi everyone

for MTO2010 operators is the magnetic compass on the aircraft one of the kind that needs a compass swing procedure?

if yes could you please recommend where to buy a sight  compass and explain the steps of performing the task.

thank you all

    Hi Jordan,

The answer to your first question depends upon several factors, including what equipment your MTO airworthiness certification requires ( is your MTO certified under CS-VLR? CS-27? FAR?), and what the flight rules you operate under require regarding installed equipment. For example, I am based in the US and my Experimental aircraft certification requires no compass be installed- but I installed one regardless.
A sight compass can be bought here but they are expensive: https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/inpages/rsc10720267.php?clickkey=32461 perhaps a local avionics shop will perform the alignment check for a much lower cost.  A source for the steps to follow is AC 43.13–1b CHG 1 Para 12-37 page 12-13. A copy can be downloaded here: https://www.faa.gov/documentlibrary/media/advisory_circular/ac_43.13-1b_w-chg1.pdf

    Hi all

Read the full description of what a Ramp Sight Compass is...it may explain why they are so expensive.  There are not many suppliers of these as they are dedicated to aviation and this may explain the high costs from the suppliers.  Generally this is done by an avionics specialist. I grabbed this from a website that sells one version however and checking the list of what they are modified to do is where the high costs come in.

    Barfield SC063 Sight Compass

    Sight Compass

Aero Express is the an Authorized Distributor for the Barfield SC063 Test Set.

To view click here: ⊗Standard Warranty Policy  ⊗SC063  Data Sheet  ⊗SC063 Operation Manual

Aero Express will buy, sell and trade the SC063 depending on your needs.  The SC063 is a portable, self-contained calibration device used to check the mounted aircraft compass. Consisting of a modified aircraft compass which has been re-screened to indicate 180 degrees from normal. The SC063 allows the operator to stand facing the aircraft, making it considerably easier to transmit signals to and from the aircraft cockpit. The SC063 is unique in that the compensating magnets have been removed and a combination magnifying lens and collimating sight added. The compensator has been removed so the compass indicates magnetic direction at all times and is not subject to calibration offsets. The magnifying lens increases the readability of the dial and the collimating lens insures precise sighting alignment. Attached to the rear of the compass is an adjustable sight lens. The lens is precisely aligned to insure that the overall accuracy of the dial does not exceed ±1 degree.

    Features:

    • Rugged, durable, and lightweight
    • Accurate to within ± 1º
    • Hand-held and portable
    • 5 foot Monopod support included
    • Protective carrying case included

    Cheers

thanks for the references you provided , our facilities are registered as ARO (Aviation Recreation Organization) so i need to check what do our civil aviation organization require for that kind of registration.
