Hi Jordan,
Generally, there are few easy to bee seen differences. First of all, if the hose is other colour than black, it is silicone. I have never met a Rotax engine with rubber coolant hoses that were not black. Another factor is the hose outer surface. Rubber is matt and silicone is glossy. Anyway, I have seen black silicone hoses but with glossy outer surface.

This is an aircraft - just change the hoses every 5 years and you will be certain you have done the best for your engine and hopefully your safety.😈

Hi Jordan
Rotax has option for silicone hoses on the type 915 and 916 as well as the 912iS. For the 912 ULS they do not. You can't use the iS hoses as they formed to fit with the collector tank in a different position from the carb engines.
The 5 year call out only applies to the black rubber original supply from Rotax. The silicone hoses are ea dull red or blue from Rotax. This depends on when it was supplied from Rotax on the injected engines. While it was standard in the USA supply in the rest of the world it was only and option. (distributor decided that)
Just for reference I have included a page from the 912 iS latest parts manual. You can see both the rubber type and silicone type hose listed.
Cheers

"While it was standard in the USA supply"
Didn't know this. Makes me sad that I ordered from a CA distributor and had it shipped down here.
