Operating 914 with Wirlwind CS prop & Jihostroj governor.

Seems there is no way to hear or see rpm drop when operation prop control during runup (as one does with Lycoming & other engines I’m familiar with).

how does one verify correct governor operation?  I see high and low limit screw checks, but no other runup or operational advice in Jihostroj manual.

Thank you! ted@fly2ak.com

    Hi Ted

Jihostroj is made in Czech Republic.  I would suggest you contact your supplier for information.  Perhaps someone on the forum is familiar with them and can help.

    Cheers

Ted, perhaps try the webpage for Jihostroj

    https://www.jihostroj.com/en/propeller-governor.html

They show installation and other things that may help.

    Cheers

So you are saying that the governor works fine in flight but not during run-up. On my Bristell B23 the run-up test works fine, provided the RPM is at or above 4000 RPM.

At the suggestion of Dan at West Coast Governor Service (outstanding!!! assistance), I looked further into the entire prop control linkage, from the cockpit standard pull-out control, to the cable operation, intermediate bellcrank, push-pull rod and ultimately the governor actuator arm.

I was amazed--and chastised myself--that previously I only focused on the cable and intermediate bellcrank operation.  I now found that the system was only moving the governor arm through perhaps 20% of its range (shame on the original builder and now me for not catching this).

I built a new bellcrank and played a bit with the push-pull rod and its adjustable Heim-joint ends.  I'm not getting about 90% governor arm movement (fine to course pitch stop-to-stop).  And, with the increased travel, the prop is indeed cycling during run-up as desired/expected.  I will adjust the new bellcrank in coming days to get full stop-to-stop travel.  You can see in the below picture several test mount holes created during the new test cycle.

Thank you everyone for your input.
