With the greatest respect, as an owner operator, you are legally bound to follow the requirements as set by the CAA. IMHO, the only course is to know, understand and follow the rules. In the event of a mishap, the CAA and insurance company vultures will be thermalling very closely above the wreckage. At the subsequent court of enquiry, what others on this forum may or may not “do” will be of zero consequence.
UK CAA guide attached, my belief is if this guidance as applicable to your circumstance is followed, the potential problems you identify will be avoided.
