Just curious:

Anyone have any idea (or even real numbers) about how many total 912s have been manufactured?
Date they were first produced?
Whether most or all of them are/were in aircraft?
How many are still out there running?

How those numbers compare to numbers of Lycomings out there?

Just wondering.
I know they are in use in dozens of models of aircraft,
and even a few in military unmanned aircraft.

    2010 numbers:
Over 35,000 Rotax 912 & 914 series engines in service
-In total (non- certified and certified) more than 30,000 engines of the 912 series and more than 5,000 engines of the 914 series have been sold.

    Great info! Thanks!
I wouldn't have guessed that many.

A harder one would approximately how many of those 35,000 are actually in service?
I know you said "in service" but in next line it seems to say 35,000 SOLD.

I presume most of there are actually in service. (I imagine it's rare for a 912/914 to be actually retired without rebuilding.) But I don't know.
