Greetings all,

I just read an article in Kitplanes about the Whirlwind Propeller. In the article the author claims to gain 10mph in cruise and 10% in climb over the Warp Drive propeller when installed on a Rans S-7. I have been told several times that the Warp wasn't as efficient as some others because it was much heavier. Roger Lee has stated that all props are equal if pitched to run 5500 to 5600rpm WOT at your normal cruise altitude.

I have managed to not spend the grand plus to find out if the Warp is less effeciant than others but I am now tempted. The article almost sounded like a paid advertizement. I am flying a Highlander with the Rotax 912uls and a 70" Warp. I just gained 5mph by ditching the bungee bags. It would be nice to gain 10mph by prop swapping.

Any comments, positive or negative, will be appreciated.

A few months back I tested a Warp, 5 Sensenich 2 and 3 blade and 2 Neuform 2 and 3 blade all side by side on the same Make, model and year aircraft. The blades were all different lengths. I used 4
2006 Flight Design CTSW's. Like I said so long as the WOT rpms were the same in each plane they all flew side by side. I have seen most prop Mfg's since 1980 make claims their prop is better than every one else, but have never seen any real proof other than what the Mfg stated. It has never bared out in field test when flown side by side with the same plane. All planes will perform a little differently because different makes have different drag issues. Even the same plane home built may be different in speed to some extent due to the builders rigging. You can't compare from one type of aircraft to another because of different drag ratios.
You can of course under or over prop a plane and the same goes for pitch.
