I found a brand-new 100 hp 912 ULS at a very good price that has been sitting in the original crate for five years. The crate has never been opened and has been stored inside a dry hangar. I assume that since the engine is five years old, it is long out of warranty. I also believe that I will not finish my airframe for several years, which means the engine will be 7 to 11 years old before it is finally started for the first time. What, if anything, would have to be done to make this engine airworthy and safe? I'm aware that Rotax wants many rubber parts replaced after 5 years, but would that apply to an engine that has never been used? Is there anything else that would need to be done? Perhaps I should pass on this deal and buy another engine when I'm actually ready for it. Any thoughts? And thanks in advance for your help.
