Hi,
I am coming up on my first condition
Inspection on My 912.

I have replaced the following:
Carb diaphrams
Carb sockets
FWF Oil and fuel lines
Fuel pump
Number 2 lower cylinder 17 mm hose
Floats checked and weighed

That's it. I see no reason to replace
Any other hoses. Can I get signed off
" On Condition".

    Hi Bob,

Being in the right frame of mind for preventative maint. makes a huge difference many times on the outcome of our flying. It could be pay some now or pay a lot later for a failure. I had a friend that failed to do his oil hoses. That cost him a brand new engine. Could have replaced those hoses for $50 versus $18K for a new engine.
    That's the gamble.
All the 17mm coolant hose should be changed. That's on top and bottom of the engine. The 25mm (1") coolant hose should be replaced. The 66mm rubber hose tubes on the carb balance tube should be replaced.
Replace the rubber engine mounts. These get hard and some soft and it causes excessive vibration that you as a pilot won't notice.

Bottom line if it's rubber just replace it. If you thought some hose should be replaced then why not all. It gets the same abuse as the stuff you changed. How can you look under clamps for cracking or inside the hose for splitting from the clamp. Maybe the hose inner lining was stripped back when installed. All fuel hose and oil hose should be in fire sleeve how would you check that. Unless you stripped every hose off and looked inside and the outside and pressure tested it no one can predict if hose is good or bad. Squeezing hose to see if it is good is so wrong and without merit. If the hose were hard you have stayed way past any reasonable time line.

Your question of can I get it signed off. That's up to you. If it is an SLSA not as easily.

Roger, just want to say I agree 100% with you on this topic. I noticed deterioration of all the rubber products in front of the firewall during the 5 year rubber replacement on my plane.

    Hello Roger,

Thank you for help and advice. I have
Ordered the hose from Lockwood and the number 3 cylinder preformed top hose.
Do you have an estimate less the engine
mounts to complete the change out.
The reason I ask is that I will need help
and trying to figure out for how long.

    Again, many thanks, Bob

"Do you have an estimate less the engine mounts to complete the change out."

Do you mean how much it will all cost or how long it will take?

If it is on most aircraft I can do them in a day. There are a few that takes me up to two days.

    Hi Roger,

I apologize for not being clear. I was asking how many man hours should
I anticipate to complete the work.

You and many others have convinced
Me that this SB is a Safety of Flight
Issue and I will get it done. Help
    Is my biggest problem.

    Thanks again, Bob
