    Hi John,

I usually suspect the sender first as it is the most common for erroneous pressure readings. I would do exactly what you are suggesting is to replace the sender.

Have you put a mechanical gauge inline to see if the pressure matches?

No oil purge needed if you change the sender.

I needed up remote mounting my oil pressure sending unit due to repeated damage from engine vibrations.

Hi Roger after another look this afternoon I have found the problem it was a faulty connector on the wire which goes back to the gauge it had corroded enough to cause resistance, after cutting it of and putting on a new one the engine was run for 30 min at various power setting all seems well now, just waiting for the weather to come right to carry out a flight test.

Thanks again for all your help

Glad you found your problem. Wires and connections should always be suspect until proven otherwise.
