Hi guys, I have a 2008 Searey with the 914 turbo with 390 hours on it. I was looking for the source of an oil leak and discovered it was coming from a crack in the case. Has anyone had this same problem with a low time engine and did rotax help at all. Also has anyone had success at welding the crack or is this even possible? Any suggestions appreciated, thanks.

    Terry,

Rotax may help, but you must file a CSIR and work through your regional service center. They may help with parts, but usually not labor.

Where is the crack? Some cracks are caused by over pitching a prop. You saw this more in the mid pre 2006 engines. I had heard of one guy welding the case, but that should not be done.

    Hi Terry,

Where is your crack and how do you think you got it?

Is the crack about 2" long on top of the engine?

Hi Roger, sorry I didn't get back sooner I was out of town. The crack is about 2" long and on the top of the engine. I haven't any idea what may have caused it, the engine has always run great. I've got a picture and will try attaching it.

Hi Roger,......the crack is actually on the side near the top. I don't know if you will be able to see it, but it is at the end of the screwdriver.
