Piston Damage

Hi, I am overhauling my engine and i have found this damage to the No 2 piston. I can find no damage to the Barrel or to the cylinder head and none of the other pistons show damage. i've cleaned it and fitted it temp but I'm going to replace it unless anyone can tell me this is normal?
