Coolant Orientation

The coolant hose from the 912 ULS engine faces the prop, but the reservoir is typically mounted on the firewall. Why? Can the hose outlet be turned to face the firewall?

    If you turned the expansion tank around you would need to replumb all the cylinder heads and the radiator with all those fittings now pointing the other way.
    It sounds like a lot of work just to save 6 inches of small low-pressure hose.

    What is the real concern?
    If it just esthetics, consider that the extra hose length increases the virtual capacity of the Overflow Reservoir by an ounce. A good thing!

    The question is, why was it designed to face the prop, when the majority of reservoirs are mounted on the firewall?

    And a very good question it is. Along the same lines, why is the hose nipple on the water pump designed to point straight at the nearby ring mount, when it could easily point at a slight angle away from it?

    There are many different mounts used, so the water pump nipple may not point at the mount for a different installation. Besides, that nipple can be easily reoriented to several other positions in 5 minutes.

    The ring mount, when used, does not change from installation to installation. All positions of the water pump point directly at the ring mount, when the ring mount is used.
