Interesting Lionel. I can't find that in any online POH for the RV12. I wonder why it would say that.

I do agree with James, though – do it nice and slowly through each bit of compression resistance.  You shouldn't actually have to pull it too hard.  And if you do have oil on the flat of your stick, just skip it entirely; save the real compression checking for your next 100-hour inspection.  :)

    PJ, I share your pain.

Instead of pulling down the blades on the Left, try lifting the blades on the right. (Facing the Prop.)

There are 2 compression strokes per engine revolution or about 5 per prop rotation.

You should not need more than one turn of the prop to get the job done if you just turn it slow and easy. 2 turns at the most.

When it starts to fight back, let it think it's winning!  Stop turning until it becomes easy again.

If you are making a Full revolution in under 15 seconds, you are turning too fast.

You are not trying to cause compression, you are trying to maximize the leak.

You should always do it immediately after the last flight. Then the next day's inspection is easy, because in both cases the engine only needs to be rotated a few revolutions. In addition, oil consumption will also reduced because there is no need to add oil unnecessarily
