FYI It's a 100$ difference in price between the Skytech aftermarket starter and a genuine Rotax Starter. One seems to burn through brushes and the other doesn't.

    Hi all

OK first off Sky Tec is an aftermarket company and does not sell them to Rotax.  The Rotax OEM starter comes from Japan not the USA.  The amount of years has little bearing on wear, that is as stated, alignment, adjustment or match of the brushes to the armature.  If it is oily then this suggests the O ring may have failed or be failing that keeps the engine oil from the starter insides.  The reason for people to buy this starter is to beat the higher price OEM part...

You might consider that age may be a factor if you failed the seal.

    Cheers

The Skytec starter has had leaks over the years. Some of their other products look okay, but are poor quality too.
