New ASB: Carburetor Float Exchange

Written by

A MANDATORY Alert Service Bulletin has been issued which applies to a very limited range of 912, 914, and 2-stroke engines, as well as any engines which have been equipped with ROTAX part number 861185 floats during engine repair, maintenance or general overhaul as of May 09, 2016.

Contest Winners

Gunskirchen, Austria, June 21, 2016 – Last year, BRP and its Rotax brand celebrated 40 years of Rotax aircraft engines and launched a contest that ended on December 31, 2015 to find the oldest certified Rotax aircraft engine in operation.

The contest winner was Kenneth Gates from Colorado, U.S.A. who owns a N351HK Super Dimona equipped with a Rotax 912 A certified engine. His aircraft engine with the serial number 36351 was produced in 1991 and is still in operation. Each participant had to provide a copy of the log book and latest proof of maintenance as well as personal contact information to his nearest authorized Rotax aircraft engine distributor.

The owner of the oldest active certified Rotax aircraft engine was invited to visit the Rotax factory in Gunskirchen, Austria where over 175,000 of the well-known Rotax aircraft engines have been developed and produced. The invitation included the travel expenses for two, two nights in a 4-star hotel, a tour of the Rotax facility and a welcome package.

"We were very impressed by the efficient processes used at the Rotax factory and the customer oriented attitude displayed by the management. Everyone is clearly very excited about continuous improvement and manufacturing the best products. We thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the people and places of the Wels/Gunskirchen area," said Kenneth Gates, who retired from the US Air Force after a 25 years career and currently works as a schoolteacher in Colorado, U.S.A.

“It was a pleasure to welcome in Austria the contest winner with his wife and to show them the place where their own aircraft engine was produced. Moreover, they did not only visit the aircraft engines production, they also were among the first to see the brand new manufacturing area installed recently,” said Thomas Uhr, vice-president BRP-Powertrain and general manager BRP-Rotax GmbH & Co KG.

MAIDEN FLIGHT OF ROTAX 915 IS ENGINE

Written by
  • Maiden flight was a success!
  • Development process of Rotax 915 iS aircraft engine on schedule.
  • More than 40 OEMs confirmed the Design-In of the Rotax 915 iS aircraft engine.

In our technical articles library and a recent video, we have examined the process of connecting a notebook computer to the 914 Turbocharger Control Unit so that you may calibrate or monitor it using the appropriate TLR software packages.

Previously, all of these packages would only run on a 32-bit version of Windows. But now, the TLR 4.6 can be run under 64-bit Windows as well.

A new radiator was introduced for the 912i, 912, and 914 series engines. This new radiator (part number 997083) replaces both the standard and the HD radiators (part numbers 995698 and 997082 respectively).

ROTAX 912: Chasing the perfect idle RPM

Written by

Chasing The Perfect Idle RPM

The highs and lows.

Is there a perfect idle rpm for the 912 series engine? This has been a widely discussed and at times a hotly debated item on many forums. The simple answer is NO. Set the idle where you want and/or need it, but do it for the right reason. This answer may surprise you, but it shouldn’t and I’ll address this later in the article.

BRP introduces a more powerful 135-hp Rotax aircraft engine at the EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin – the Rotax 915 iS.

Connecting ROTAX TLR software to the 914 TCU.

Written by
In our technical articles library and a recent video, we have examined the process of connecting a notebook computer to the 914 Turbocharger Control Unit so that you may calibrate or monitor it using the appropriate TLR software packages. This is not a difficult task, and connection is generally painless when using a computer that is equipped with a "standard" DB9 RS-232 serial port.
