Hi All,

I have a near new 582 Bluehead (60hrs) and the EGT's are not matching up at cruise power (5700 or so) with the MAG end 100f higher: 1100 MAG and 1000 PTO, and stay unequal as they get hotter on decent power (4000rpm or so). WOT @ 6500 they are lower but very close to, if not, equal. I have swapped wire connections over ... same problem on same manifold. Swapped out probes with new ones no change.

Can you set the needles different in each carb?

Thanks.

Have you tried swapping the wires on the rear of the instrument in case its a gauge fault...apart from that look for intake air leaks...have you had the carbs balanced...that makes a big difference,

I would myself mess with different needles apart from change the 2 but as its new is unlikely to be a needle prob with such low hours unless they where fitted in the wrong slots from new....have you checked the needle positions on both carbs

You could try swapping the needles...side to side...or swap the carbs...side to side.

    Nick.

Thanks Nick. No never balanced only set physically. Yeh might try swapping carbs... never though of that. DOH!

Needles only checked when I did the install but will be doing that again soon.

Not sure about a gauge fault as when swapping wires at bullet connectors near engine temp follows and consistent with the same manifold ... gauge worked fine with engine changed out but will definitely have another fiddle in there too.

Hi Damien...before you change over carbs and maybe waste your time...balance your carbs properly first...its needs doing anyway,

I use Bob Metzlers method of carb balance...works a treat for me...have a look at his wise words taken from a yahoo forum...look under...CABLE ADJUSTMENT FOR DUAL CARBS...at first,

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cgshawk/message/26176,

I do a further test to see if the slides are lifting at exactly the same time...Bobs method is to insert the drill bits....what I do is get hold of 2 arc welding rods around 16 ins long...length not that important...clean of the flux from the rod and make sure no bits of crap can enter the carb body....put one rod under each slide and watch the rods for a twitch as you gently open the throttle...if they are not in synch one will twitch before the other...see attached picture.

    Nick.

Bob has helped me no end.

Thanks Nick, Joined Bob's group: great tips... I had wondered what the welding rod trick was I had read on here. Will definitely give that a go! Thanks for your help. Unfortunately I will not make it out to my plane till later in the week... of course any other advise in the mean time is appreciated.

OK Feedback... Balanced (welding rod trick) check balance with feeler gauge through out range... test flew... no change still disparity (100f at least).

Worked through all the wiring and not real sure what I changed as had all (engine and gauge) wiring off and back on at various stages. When I rewired as per instructions I got off line nether gauge worked... tried again different configuration.. one worked... swapped wires on the one not working over. Success! EGTS very close to even...

Could have been wired up wrong or bad connection that was fixed while fiddling.
