Long Compression Fitting EGT Probes in 503

Hi, Guys! I found that I have a bad EGT Probe on my DCDI 503 and, since I have a GRT EIS, I decided to order the reasonably priced GRT probes as a replacement. Upon receipt of the probes I found that the probe mounting was somewhat different from the old screw-in probes. The GRT probes are much longer and come with a compression fitting mounting which allow the installer to install the probes at different depths into the exhaust manifold. I know that there is an ideal depth of installation but I can't find any info detailing what that is. Any thoughts on the subject out there?

Hi bob,

The tip of the probe should be in the center of the exhaust manifold. Ex. A 1" i.d. manifold would have the tip 1/2" into the manifold. The manifold is not round where the probe goes in so just use a piece of wire or something to measure the I.D. and use half that for the probe. If you are off slightly, it won't matter. Just be as near the center as you can.
