Bill you were right - ran a direct earth line and the meter reads correctly. Tried it off the earth wire and its fine until the engine runs and it doesn't work. had a radio installed by the factory recently and I suspect they may have compromised the the earth/neutral wire at some point. So now just need to find a new earth point to put teh gauges earth too and then things should be ok. Harder than it seems though!

I have the same problem with my Airborne Edge X Classic with the 582.
In my case it happened gradually.
Did the above mentioned solution work for you?

In the end yes ,although the chap with the earth idea was closest. Bottom line is that when the L2 LAME installed my radio it has mucked around with the earthing circuitry. After replacing the sensor and a new guage I ran a temporary new earth line from the gauge to the engine earth and wahlah ! It behaved normally. So rather than try to solve the rubix cube that is my little aircrafts electrics, I ran another earth line permanetly for the gauge to the negative (ground) of my battery to fix the pronlemproblem
