How can you determine that the oil pump is working on a Rotax 582 mod 99? As far as I can tell, you can only check the oil tank level to see if it's decreasing, but you would check that AFTER a flight. But if you are on a 2 or 3 hour flight and it stops working early in the fight, then you are now running the engine without lubrication?

I have a Quicksilver Sport 2S...trying to figure out if I can add something to monitor the system inflight...thanks!

    Mike,

Never seen any sort of flow meter for the oil supply. Only thing I can think of is to mount the oil tank where you can see it and I don't think that is an option on a quicksilver. Even if you could see the tank, the usage rate is so slow that I doubt you would notice it had stopped until it was too late.

On the bright side, despite what you sometimes hear from premix advocates, I have never seen an oil pump fail and have never met anyone who actually had a pump failure. Not to say it doesn't happen, but the chances are slim.

Interesting. I guess there's no such thing as oil pressure on this engine?

    Mike,

No oil pressure. The oil pump just drips oil into the intake manifold.
