Hi, my name is Walter from Australia
I rebuilt my little gyro last year and gave it a brand new 582 silver top, this engine had been sitting sealed for over 15 years.
View through the exhaust and intake was perfect. Anyway I did the break in according to the manual
the engine has oil injection
I have never it flown until temps are normal
Problem 1 - sometimes when you open to full power it surges and won't rev. change plugs ( old ones were good color), swap fuel pumps ( I have 2 new ones ), plenty of fuel , I have flown it for about 15 hours definitely getting oil, fuel filter is new and hasn't been oiled
both mags working, but now and again it will surge and eventually come good so I don't fly very far from strip (Silly I know)

Problem 2 - the other day on take off at 600 feet at the end of the strip it stopped, felt like it seized, I landed, on inspection it had
fuel and the prop was free, it started straight away and I taxied back
Since then I have ground tested 3 times OK then on the 4th it stopped dead, again fuel in the carbies and free prop
last saturday I disconnected the injection cable and used premix, it ran fine I warmed it but on take off commencement it started to surge so I put it in the hanger
Maybe someone has had a similiar experience, I would appreciate your advice

15 years in storage is a long time. If it were mine I would tear it down and do a carefull inspection of the crankshaft, in particular the rod bearings. I can just about guarantee that you will be replacing the crankshaft. This is required to reseal the crankcase and inspect the engine properly.
Let us know what you find.

Hi Walt...its possible it did seize...by the time you landed it may have freed if it only nipped up...they can kid you.

After 15 years as Dennis says lots of things can deteriorate...the crank end seals will have gone brittle and maybe letting air in leading to a weak mix...leading to a seize.

What EGT reading does it give at full RPM.

    Nick.
